Keys and access: make the handover plan explicit
If the flat is vacant, agree on who hands over the key at the start, who receives it at the end, and how that handover will be recorded. Where there are several keys, it helps to identify which one opens the building entrance, flat, storage area or common space. Any particular access issue involving the door, water valve, electrical panel or rooms to be cleaned should be shared beforehand.
A tenant, owner, property representative or moving crew may be present during the same period. If so, room order can prevent overlap: for example, a bathroom and kitchen that have already been cleared may be addressed before living areas. If a key is being left, the status of personal belongings, valuables and restricted rooms should also be stated clearly.
