Two flats of the same size can turn out to be two completely different jobs. In one, there is the grease and dust left by weekly use; in the other, plaster cutting and fresh paint have left a fine layer on every surface. Are water, power and entry ready?
The most common delay on cleaning day happens between arrival and the actual start of work. Three checks make it easier: does water run from the taps, is the meter on and are the sockets live, and who will open the door.
- Water: Filling buckets, rinsing mops and wiping surfaces all need an uninterrupted supply. If the main valve is closed or the tank is empty, say so before the appointment.
- Power: Vacuums and machines depend on electricity. In newly handed-over flats the fuse box may be off; if light fittings are not installed, daytime hours work better.
- Entry: Who holds the key, is registration required at the site entrance, is the lift usable. If the key is with a neighbour or an estate office, share this in advance.
Missing water or power does not cancel the job outright, but the scope narrows and which parts can be done is discussed again.
Renovation dust versus daily dirt
Daily dirt collects mostly in living areas: the kitchen counter, around the hob, bathroom fittings, floors. Renovation dust behaves differently; it stays suspended in the air and settles behind skirting boards, above door frames, between radiator fins and inside cupboards. That is why it is removed in stages rather than in a single wipe, and checked again after some time.
Paint drops, mortar or grout residue are a separate matter. Without knowing the surface type and the manufacturer's care instructions, no method can be called suitable; laminate, natural stone and painted surfaces do not tolerate the same treatment. If building or renovation work has taken place, mention it from the start so the job can be assessed as post-construction cleaning. For an emptied flat before handover, empty flat cleaning is the closer scope.
Floors and large glass in a villa
In a multi-storey home the work order alone saves time: moving from the top floor down, leaving the stairwell until last, setting a walking route for wet floors. If the floors and rooms included are agreed beforehand, areas meant to stay closed are not opened for nothing.
Large glass is its own topic. Wide façade panes in a living room need a different working setup than ordinary windows, and whether they are handled together with villa cleaning or separately should be discussed. Accessible glass and frames are assessed; work at height or on risky exterior façades is outside the scope. If you see a mark or scratch on glass, do not try to identify its cause yourself; telling coating, surface wear and a scratch apart requires an on-site expert assessment.

Check points before and after
- Confirm water, power and key arrangements before the appointment.
- If renovation took place, say what was done and how long ago it finished.
- Put away fragile items and personal documents.
- State in writing any room, cupboard or floor to be left out.
- At the end, review skirting backs, cupboard interiors, door tops and glass edges together.
Can cleaning go ahead during a water cut?
Only in a limited way. Dry dusting and some tidying can continue, but floors and wet areas need water. If you report the cut in advance, the scope is agreed accordingly.
Will one clean remove all the dust after renovation?
Renovation dust stays suspended in the air and can settle again after the first clean. For this reason it is removed in stages and a later check should be expected.
