Picture one home cleaned with a single bucket, one cloth and one brush for every room. In another home, the kitchen grease has its own cloth, the bathroom its own brush, the glass its own squeegee, and painted or wooden surfaces are wiped with carefully controlled moisture. Both may take the same number of hours, yet the visible difference usually comes not from stronger chemicals but from separating the tools. Different surface, different tool
A home puts very unlike surfaces side by side: ceramic floors, laminate or parquet, a kitchen counter, the area around the hob, bathroom grout, painted walls, glass and frames, metal handrails, upholstery fabric. An abrasive pad that helps on grout can leave marks on a tap or a glass pane. That is why cloths and brushes are separated by area; keeping kitchen and bathroom cloths apart is a basic rule for both surfaces and hygiene.
There is a limit, though. Whether a surface is coated, and whether an existing mark is a scratch, a stain or damage to the coating itself, cannot be settled by eye or by home-made tests. The reliable step is to show the surface on site and, if possible, share the manufacturer's care instructions. When those instructions are unknown, the method is chosen conservatively.
Is the renovation finished, or still in progress?
This question changes the scope more than any other. If painting, silicone, grouting, electrical or plumbing work is unfinished, part of the cleaning will inevitably be repeated. Coarse debris (rubble, packaging, tape, offcuts) and fine cleaning are separate jobs; moving to fine cleaning before the debris is gone wastes effort. With paint and mortar residue, surface sensitivity decides the approach: the same residue is not removed the same way from ceramic and from aluminium joinery. When dust comes back after cleaning
Fine building dust stays airborne for a long time and settles on curtains, rugs, behind radiators, on top of cupboards and around sockets. For that reason dust is usually taken in stages: high and hidden surfaces first, then vertical surfaces, floors last. Dust reappearing soon after does not always mean the work was incomplete; ventilation direction, ongoing sanding or cutting, or work in a neighbouring unit can all contribute. Talking through these possibilities beforehand makes it easier to plan whether a second pass is needed. Glass and frames wiped during a dusty period are often done twice, so glass cleaning is generally scheduled after the dust work ends.
Upholstery: fabric and drying
Two things govern upholstery cleaning: the fabric label and the drying conditions. If the label is missing or unreadable, the method is chosen more cautiously. Upholstery washed in a closed, humid room that cannot be aired takes longer to dry, which raises the risk of odour and marks. If a window can be opened, the seating day can be shifted, and the sofa can be pulled away from the wall, the job is easier to plan. When the source and age of a stain are unknown, full removal cannot be promised.

- Home cleaning: kitchen, bathroom, living areas; special items agreed in advance.
- Office and workplace: work and shared areas; electronics and documents are not handled.
- Post-construction: coarse debris separated from fine cleaning.
- Empty flat: cupboard interiors, bathroom, kitchen, floors; water and power access needed.
- Apartment and site: stairs, landings, entrance, shared areas.
- Villa: order of floors, rooms, stairs and glass; pool care not included.
- Upholstery and glass cleaning: subject to the conditions above.
- Before: list your surfaces, set aside any care instructions, note which renovation items are finished.
- Before: water and power access, entry and parking, a room where upholstery can air.
- After: check glass and frames, cupboard tops, behind radiators, bathroom grout and floor edges in daylight.

Does it make sense to clean before the renovation is fully done?

What if the sofa has no care label?
Without the fabric content and the manufacturer's instructions, the method is set more cautiously and some treatments may not be advised. Drying is assessed separately: a room that can be ventilated and space to move the sofa off the wall.
