The standard scope is based on surfaces that can be reached safely from floor level. The list below lets you see in advance which items we will go through when discussing your quote.

• Included: sweeping large floors and washing or mopping them according to the floor type; removing dust that has settled between the racking and along the base of the walls; cleaning the loading and dispatch area and the entrance; cleaning the office section, staff rest area and toilets inside the warehouse; surfaces and windows that can be reached safely from floor level.
• Discussed separately: points requiring safe access at height, such as the tops of tall racking and the roof structure; the need for machine floor cleaning in large areas; agreeing with the business which products may be used in food warehouses; clearing mud and sediment after flooding.

Concrete, epoxy and tiled floors: why does the method change?

There is no single recipe for cleaning a warehouse floor. The floor type determines both the product to be used and how much water can be applied:

• Bare concrete is porous; it holds dust, and too much water can spread sediment across the surface. On these floors the emphasis is on dry sweeping and controlled damp mopping.
• Epoxy-coated floors have a more sealed surface; abrasive products that could dull the coating are avoided and cleaners suited to the surface are used.
• Tiled and ceramic floors need separate attention to the dirt that collects in the grout lines; as the grout shapes the overall look of the floor, a product suited to the surface is chosen here too.

In warehouses with heavy dust, dry sweeping comes first; going straight to wet cleaning turns the dust into mud and prolongs the job. The need for machine floor cleaning on large open floors is assessed during the site visit; whether a machine is used depends on the size of the area, the condition of the floor and the manoeuvring room left by the racking layout. In narrow racking aisles, working by hand and with small equipment is often safer.

If there is an unidentified residue or chemical trace on the surface, that section is not cleaned; the business is expected to identify the substance and, if necessary, arrange specialist disposal. Different cleaning chemicals are never mixed under any circumstances.

What the business needs to prepare before the appointment

How efficiently a warehouse can be cleaned depends on how easily the team can reach the area. The following preparations before the appointment speed up the job and protect your stock:

• Stopping forklift, pallet-truck and vehicle traffic during the cleaning slot, or separating the area to be cleaned from the working area
