Picture two flats, both around a hundred square metres. In one, the curtains have just been washed, the kitchen cupboards are empty and the windows were done six months ago. In the other, the cupboards are full, the sliding tracks have collected dust and grit, and dried rain marks sit along the balcony door frame. Same number, two very different jobs. What square metres leave out
Area tells you how much floor and general surface there is. The actual workload comes from other things: how many wet rooms there are, whether furniture stays in place or is moved so underneath can be cleaned, whether the soil is fresh or long settled, and whether water and electricity are available. Saying these things in advance makes the scope realistic. On the phone, a sentence like "do you want the inside of the kitchen cupboards too" is more useful than counting rooms.
Making window scope clear
Window cleaning is not one task but several. Is only the inner face included, or the outer face of the openable sashes as well? Do the tracks and frames count? Grit in the tracks usually needs vacuuming plus damp cleaning, which is a separate step from wiping glass. If there are insect screens, whether they come out is also discussed. Not every mark on glass comes from dirt.
